Raymond Childs III, a man from Indianapolis, was found guilty of six counts of murder, including the deaths of his family members and a pregnant woman who was nearly due to give birth. The killings occurred in January 2021 following an argument over Childs staying out late. He was arrested a day after the shooting and convicted after a five-day trial. Childs went from room to room, shooting the victims, which included his father, stepmother, two siblings, and his brother’s girlfriend and her unborn son. The surviving brother, who was 15 at the time, managed to escape the house. The jury deliberated for three hours before the guilty verdict was reached.
Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears stated that the events that occurred in the home were unfathomable, and the verdict provides justice for the victims. The sentencing for Childs is set for Jan. 7, where he faces significant prison time for each murder count, the attempted murder charge, and the handgun charge. This conviction comes after a mistrial in Childs’ first trial due to a witness verbally confronting him in front of the jury. Overall, the trial team, law enforcement, and witnesses showed dedication to seeking justice for the victims despite facing adversity.
