Former President Donald Trump made a campaign stop in Austin, Texas, where he attacked Vice President Kamala Harris over immigration and border security, making several false claims. As the presidential election nears, both candidates spent time in Texas, a traditionally red state. While Trump focused on border issues, Harris spoke about reproductive rights in Houston.
During his speech, Trump baselessly accused Harris of turning Texas into a staging ground for illegal immigrants and criminal gangs. He criticized her approach to border security, calling it cruel and heartless. Despite not holding the official title of “border czar,” Trump continued to incorrectly refer to her as such. Harris responded by criticizing Trump’s rhetoric as belittlement of the American people.
Trump also reiterated his plan to launch the largest deportation program in American history if reelected. Meanwhile, his running mate, Ohio GOP Senator J.D. Vance, participated in a Michigan town hall where he faced questions on various topics, including immigration and housing. Trump even called in to ask Vance about his brilliance and to joke about Harris.
Vance defended his recent amplification of baseless claims regarding legal Haitian migrants eating cats and dogs, stating that he listens to his constituents and focuses on their concerns. These debunked claims have led to threats and closures in Springfield, Ohio. Despite these controversies and false claims, both Trump and Vance continue to campaign as the election date approaches.
