Five years before being charged with murdering two middle school students in Indiana, Richard Allen reached out to authorities about the crime. This information was initially marked clear and overlooked until 2022 when a volunteer found it. Witnesses described a man known as “the bridge guy” who was seen near the area where the girls were found. Allen had been in the area where the girls went missing on the day of the murders and had provided information to investigators, but his involvement was initially dismissed.
During the trial, Allen’s defense has claimed his innocence and suggested the killings may have been part of a ritual sacrifice. Witnesses reported seeing a man covered in mud and blood near the scene. One witness, who was friends with the victims, positively identified Allen as “the bridge guy” seen on Snapchat footage taken by one of the girls.
After the volunteer brought attention to Allen’s initial tip, investigators spoke with him again, and they found a gun in his home matching a bullet found near the girls. Experts testified about ballistics evidence linking the gun to the bullet. Law enforcement had overlooked crucial information provided by Allen five years earlier, leading to his arrest. The trial continues as witnesses recount their interactions with Allen and the events leading up to his arrest.
