The opening game of the 2024 World Series between the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers was filled with drama. In the top of the ninth inning with the score tied 2-2, Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres hit what appeared to be a go-ahead home run, but a fan interfered by catching the ball in his glove. After a review, Torres was sent back to second base with two outs. The Dodgers went on to win the game 6-3 on a walk-off home run by Freddie Freeman in the 10th inning. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts described it as one of the greatest baseball moments he’s witnessed. The controversial play drew comparisons to past fan interference incidents, such as the infamous Jeffrey Maier incident in 1996. Game 2 is set for Saturday night in Los Angeles, with the Yankees starting Carlos Rodón and the Dodgers starting Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
