A woman was fatally shot at 34th and Garfield in Kansas City, just east of 71 Highway. Police identified the victim as 44-year-old Ebony Davis. Following the incident, FOX4 investigated the 911 calls made that night, revealing a caller who experienced a 57-second delay before speaking with an operator. Alayna Gonzalez from the Kansas City Police Department shared information from the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) regarding the incident.
Two individuals interviewed near the scene expressed shock and concern over the crime in the area. Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church’s Youth Director Margaret Brooks shared her sadness over the incident and emphasized the need for community outreach and support for the victim’s family. One local resident, Pamela Woodcox, noted the area’s high crime rate and lack of safety.
In response to the tragic event, Brooks mentioned that the church is planning to launch a Teen Outreach Program (TOP) to offer support and guidance to local youth. KCFD Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins confirmed that the ambulance arrived at the scene nine minutes after the 911 call was placed. Police believe the shots were fired from outside the car and have made no arrests.
Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the TIPS Hotline anonymously. Information leading to an arrest could result in a reward of up to $25,000. The incident has raised concerns about public safety and the need to address crime in the area by implementing community programs and initiatives.
