Less than two weeks before Election Day, a CNBC poll shows a tight race between Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris nationally and in key battleground states. Trump leads on economic issues, while Harris is ahead on character issues such as honesty and fitness for the presidency. In the battleground states, Trump is just one point ahead of Harris. The poll suggests that inflation is a major concern for voters, with many feeling that their income is falling behind the cost of living. Harris leads Trump nationally on fitness and honesty, while Trump is ahead on economic issues and helping small businesses. When it comes to voters’ perceptions of their financial situation, more believe they would be better off financially if Trump wins. However, when asked which candidate would bring positive change for the country, Harris has a slight edge. Trump is slightly more popular than Harris nationally, but their ratings are similar in battleground states. In terms of control of Congress, more voters prefer Republicans to be in charge, with a 4-point edge over Democrats. Overall, the race appears to be very close and may ultimately be determined by different voter groups’ assessments of the candidates.
