Used car dealers in Kansas City area report identical suspect taking cars for test drives and not returning

Multiple police departments in the Kansas City metro area are currently searching for a car thief who has been stealing vehicles from used car lots. The thief has been able to easily steal cars by getting the keys from dealerships for test drives and then never returning.

One victim, John Rudolph of Tee Sweeps Auto LLC, had a man interested in a silver 2015 BMW 328i who took off with the car after a test drive that lasted hours. Another dealership, KC Amigos, had a similar experience with the same man using a fake Florida driver’s license for multiple test drives before taking off with a 2019 Genesis G70.

The thief has been identified as someone who preys on car dealerships by gaining their trust and then stealing cars. Rudolph found his stolen car listed on Facebook Marketplace with his original sales photos. The man is believed to have targeted other used car lots in the area as well.

As a result of these thefts, car dealerships are considering additional security measures such as requiring proof of insurance and monitoring whether the test driver leaves a car behind. Dealerships are warning others in the area to be cautious of this car thief and not to trust him.

Rudolph emphasized that the thief knows how to make people feel comfortable and needs to be stopped before he strikes again. Anyone who encounters him is advised to report him to the authorities immediately.
