Richard Allen is on trial for the murders of teenage girls Abigail “Abby” Williams and Liberty “Libby” German in Delphi, Indiana in February 2017. Prosecutors allege that Allen, armed with a gun, forced the girls “down the hill” before slitting their throats, causing their deaths. Evidence presented includes an unspent bullet found at the scene and confessions he allegedly gave, as well as eyewitness accounts of him at the trail that day. However, the defense argues that the investigation was flawed from the start, with lost evidence and inconsistencies.
The trial revealed that Abby was found fully clothed in Libby’s clothing, while Libby was found naked and covered in blood. Witnesses testified to the last day Abby and Libby were seen alive, with Libby’s older sister driving them to the trail where they were later found dead. The community searched for the girls before their bodies were discovered, sparking renewed interest in the case.
Allen faces charges of two counts of murder and two counts of felony murder, which could result in up to 130 years in prison. The trial will focus on evidence such as a bullet linked to Allen’s pistol found at the scene, as well as a video retrieved from Libby’s phone showing a suspect giving commands to the girls. The defense is expected to argue that the girls may have been abducted and brought back to the scene, rather than killed by Allen. Ultimately, the trial aims to determine the truth behind the tragic deaths of Abby and Libby and bring justice to their families.
