Tech billionaire Elon Musk stated during a recent town hall event in Oaks, Pennsylvania that all voting should be done in person to prevent potential voter fraud. Musk expressed his opinion that voting should be done on paper, in person, and with identification. Despite his previous history of voting by mail, Musk also promoted a debunked conspiracy theory related to Dominion Voting Systems being part of a plot to rig elections. Voting by mail has become common in many jurisdictions and there is no evidence of widespread voter fraud by any means in the United States. Musk, who has supported absentee voting through his super PAC, America PAC, has given nearly $75 million to the organization. However, he has repeatedly stated his opposition to mail-in voting, claiming it invites fraud. Musk suggested that people who have evidence of voter fraud should post it on his social media app, X, for others to review. During the event, Musk also made false statements regarding immigration, election processes in California, and the suspension of left-leaning accounts on social media. Additionally, Musk made a joke about the pipe bombs that were left near the U.S. Capitol the day before the Jan. 6 attack. Despite these controversial statements, Musk received support and applause from the audience during the event.
