Five individuals, including a teen, were shot on Westport Road in Kansas City on Wednesday night, with bullets causing damage to local businesses. One business owner, Erin Fedor-Motes of Got Hair Midtown, shared security footage of her stylist and client taking cover during the shooting. Fedor-Motes expressed frustration with the ongoing violence in the area and called on the Kansas City Police Department to take action.
The incident occurred above Fedor-Motes’ salon, where two groups were involved in a fight that escalated into gunfire. Despite the city’s unveiling of KC United for Public Safety, a coalition aimed at addressing violence, concerns remain high among business owners. Fedor-Motes and other owners are calling for increased police presence and community involvement to address the root causes of crime in Kansas City.
Police Sergeant Phil DiMartino stated that no arrests have been made in connection to the shooting, and the victims are in stable condition. The community is encouraged to provide any information they may have to KC Crime Stoppers. While business owners are working to ensure their safety, they emphasize the need for collaborative efforts with law enforcement and city officials to combat crime in the area. The incident has sparked discussions about public safety and the challenges faced by local businesses in navigating the realities of crime in Kansas City.
