Kenzie Lewellen went into labor at 39 weeks pregnant with Hurricane Milton approaching the Gulf Coast. Despite flooding and power outages from the storm, Kenzie and her boyfriend Dewey made the decision to go to the hospital in Venice as the storm hit. Due to complications, Kenzie needed a cesarean section, causing her distress in the midst of the storm. Despite problems with the epidural, baby Dewey was born healthy at 11:45 p.m. ET, bringing immense joy to the couple. The birth of their son, Dewey Lester Bennett IV, was especially meaningful for Dewey as his own father passed away during a hurricane in 2017. The couple expressed gratitude towards the healthcare team at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, who worked tirelessly during the storm to ensure safe deliveries for all newborns. They felt overwhelmed with love and happiness as they held little Dewey, knowing he was a miracle baby born under such challenging circumstances. Despite the hardships faced during the storm, the arrival of their son filled them with hope and joy, making them thankful for the new addition to their family. Through it all, they found strength and resilience in each other, knowing that baby Dewey’s birth story would always be a reminder of the challenges they overcame together.
