KU expected to win Big 12, Dickinson awarded top preseason honor

The Big 12 Conference coaches have once again picked Kansas to win the league, with center Hunter Dickinson being named as the preseason player of the year. Dickinson, who transferred from Michigan, had an impressive season in 2023-24, averaging a double-double and earning All-American honors. He is the first player to receive the preseason player of the year honor twice. Alongside Dickinson, point guard Dajuan Harris Jr. was also recognized as a second-team selection.

Kansas coach Bill Self has emphasized the need for Dickinson to improve his shooting and athleticism. The Jayhawks had a disappointing season last year, but with new additions and increased depth, they are looking to bounce back. Harris, entering his final season of collegiate eligibility, will be a key player for the team.

In the preseason poll, Kansas was predicted to win the Big 12, with Houston, Iowa State, Baylor, and newcomer Arizona rounding out the top five. Newcomers Jeremy Roach of Baylor and Coleman Hawkins of K-State shared newcomer of the year honors, while Baylor’s VJ Edgecombe was named the preseason freshman of the year.

Overall, the upcoming season looks promising for Kansas with Dickinson leading the way and a strong supporting cast. Fans are hopeful that the Jayhawks will live up to expectations and have a successful season.
