Two people died and more than two dozen were treated after a hydrogen sulfide leak at a Pemex facility in Deer Park, Texas, caused by workers working on a flange. A shelter-in-place order was issued but lifted after air monitoring found no hazardous pollutants. Pemex stated that the incident was contained to their site and isolated, with no offsite impacts detected. The facility is co-located at a Shell refinery site, and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is aware of the incident. Houston is home to many refineries and plants, making it the country’s petrochemical heartland.
