Iran retaliated against Israel on Tuesday by launching 200 missiles, following targeted strikes in September that killed Hezbollah leaders. The attack occurred on the eve of Rosh Hashana, during a ceremony at the Jewish Community Center in Overland Park commemorating the surprise terror attack on Israel by Hamas. The exhibit titled “A Year Without” featured 1,200 stones with names of those affected by the attacks, with some still unaccounted for.
Neta Meltzer from the Jewish Community Relations Bureau expressed the impact of the past year, highlighting the lack of normalcy and the diverse responses from the community. One attendee, Micah Levine, shared his cousin’s experience of trying to save victims during the attacks. President Joe Biden assured that the U.S. Military is supporting Israel’s defense, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Iran of consequences for the missile launch.
As the conflict with Hamas and Hezbollah backed by Iran continues, a remembrance ceremony is planned at the B’nai Jehudah Temple on October 7. Despite the challenging times, the community remains resilient and united in defending what is right and just for all people. The event serves as a reminder of the ongoing threats faced by Israel and its commitment to standing strong against persecution.
