Kansas City man, Dalton Johnston, has been arrested for allegedly selling homemade devices that can turn semi-automatic firearms into fully automatic machine guns. Authorities discovered hundreds of these dangerous devices in Johnston’s possession before apprehending him. United States Attorney Teresa Moore emphasized the threat that these illegal weapons pose to public safety and law enforcement officers.
Special Agent Bernard Hansen of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms described the homemade conversion devices as capable of turning any street corner into a combat zone and creating devastation within communities. Johnston sold one such device to an undercover ATF agent, leading to his arrest on three felony charges.
Federal prosecutors warned that individuals involved in the manufacturing or possession of these deadly devices will be identified and arrested. The sting investigation that led to Johnston’s arrest lasted nearly a month, culminating in his detention in jail. The 27-year-old now faces harsh legal consequences for his alleged actions, as law enforcement agencies vow to continue prosecuting individuals involved in the production and distribution of illegal firearm conversion devices.
