Jody Fortson has returned to the Kansas City Chiefs after catching 14 passes over two seasons with the team. The 6-foot-6 wide receiver originally signed with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent out of Valdosta State in 2019. Despite limited playing time, Fortson has shown potential with his size and athleticism.
Fortson spent the 2020 season on the Chiefs practice squad before being waived in the offseason. He then signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice squad but did not see any game action with the team. Now, Fortson has been given another opportunity to showcase his skills with the Chiefs and will look to make an impact on the field.
The return of Fortson adds depth to the Chiefs’ receiving corps, which already features standout players like Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. Fortson will have to compete for playing time in a crowded receiver room but his familiarity with the team and coaching staff could give him an advantage.
Head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes will be looking for Fortson to make the most of his opportunities and contribute to the team’s offense. The Chiefs are coming off a disappointing loss in the Super Bowl and will be hungry to return to the big game next season.
Fans will be eager to see what Fortson can bring to the table as he looks to establish himself as a reliable target for Mahomes. The upcoming season promises to be an exciting one for the Chiefs as they seek to reclaim their championship form.
