MoDOT Senior Maintenance Worker Hit and Killed in Missouri
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Transportation is in mourning following the death of one of its senior maintenance workers. Jay Bone, 60, was tragically hit and killed while working on Route O in Pettis County on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred during a flagging operation for pavement repair between U.S. 50 and Route N.
The Missouri Highway Patrol is currently investigating the incident, which involved an 18-year-old driver of a semi-truck. Bone was pronounced dead at the scene and transferred to a funeral home in Sedalia. Despite the crash report indicating that the driver remained at the scene, no arrests or charges have been made at this time.
Bone had been with MoDOT since 2015 and resided in Smithton, Missouri. This devastating event occurred shortly after MoDOT’s day of remembrance for fallen workers in Jefferson City. The department and Bone’s loved ones are grieving the loss of a dedicated and valued member of the team.
MoDOT has not released any additional information regarding the incident, but the community is coming together to support Bone’s family and colleagues during this difficult time. The incident serves as a tragic reminder of the dangers faced by transportation workers while carrying out essential duties on Missouri roadways.
