Israel continued its third day of strikes in southern Lebanon on Wednesday following the death of a senior commander of Hezbollah in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut. The strikes resulted in unspecified casualties and brought the death toll in Lebanon to 569 people, with many wounded as well.
The offensive has raised concerns that the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah may escalate and destabilize the region. The UN Security Council planned to meet to discuss the situation, while world leaders, including US President Joe Biden, urged for diplomatic solutions to prevent a full-scale war.
Lebanon’s Foreign Minister criticized Biden’s address as not strong enough, emphasizing the importance of US intervention to help resolve the crisis. Lebanon’s Prime Minister sought to meet with US officials to address the escalating situation.
Hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced in Lebanon, with families seeking shelter in schools and struggling to find accommodations. Displacement and destruction caused by the airstrikes have put civilians at risk, with some taking refuge in cars, parks, and along the seaside.
Hezbollah has launched rockets at Israeli targets, while Israel vowed to continue its offensive against the militant group. The situation remains tense, with concerns over further escalation and the need for international intervention to prevent further loss of life and instability in the region.
