Harris Supports Eliminating Filibuster to Ensure Abortion Rights, According to Kansas Reflector

Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris expressed her support for changing Senate procedures to protect the right to abortion during a radio interview on Tuesday. Harris advocated for eliminating the 60-vote threshold known as the filibuster to advance abortion rights legislation, emphasizing the importance of reproductive freedom and individual decision-making.
She pledged to use her tie-breaking vote as vice president to support abortion rights and sign legislation codifying Roe v. Wade. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has also indicated Democrats’ willingness to discuss rules changes to protect abortion rights.
In response, Republican candidate Donald Trump, speaking at a rally in Pennsylvania, described himself as a “protector” of women and advocated for states to have control over abortion laws. Trump called for Senate Republicans to end the filibuster, a sentiment echoed by other GOP leaders.
With current Senate projections favoring Republicans gaining control, the stakes are high for Democrats to secure wins in key battleground states. At a Senate press conference, Democratic Senator Patty Murray expressed support for Harris’ stance on abortion, emphasizing the importance of protecting individuals’ rights without being blocked by filibusters.
The candidates continue to campaign in battleground states this week, with Harris and Trump planning visits to Pennsylvania, Arizona, and Nevada. Harris hosted a press call with Mark Cuban to discuss her economic policies, while polls show Trump being perceived as having an advantage on economic issues. Both campaigns are focusing on key swing states like Georgia, Michigan, and North Carolina in the upcoming days.
