Zelenskyy: Russia should be compelled to make peace in accordance with the principles of the UN Charter

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy gave a passionate speech at the UN Security Council, calling for an end to the war in Ukraine based on United Nations rules. Zelenskyy described Russia’s actions as “insane” and warned that they plan to target three nuclear plants in Ukraine. He urged the UN to force Russia to respect the UN charter and emphasized the need for action rather than just talks to end the conflict.

Zelenskyy is set to present his full “victory plan” to President Biden at the White House on September 26th. The plan outlines Ukraine’s terms for future peace negotiations with Russia and does not include any proposed concessions. Despite his willingness to negotiate, Zelenskyy indicated that Russian President Vladimir Putin may not be ready for peace talks at this time.

During his visit to the US, Zelenskyy addressed the UN General Assembly and visited an arms ammunition factory in Pennsylvania. He is scheduled to meet with Biden, as well as presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, to discuss the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Trump’s stance on supporting Ukraine differs from that of the Biden administration, as he previously declined to express a clear preference for Ukraine to win the war during a debate with Harris.

Zelenskyy’s efforts to end the war in Ukraine have garnered international attention, with many hoping for a peaceful resolution to the conflict that has plagued the region.
