Analysis of Who Emerged Victorious in the Trump-Harris Presidential Debate According to Observers | Latest Updates from US Election 2024

Trump and Harris Accuse Each Other of Fueling Division in First Presidential Debate

In their first presidential debate at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris sparred over contentious issues such as migration, fracking, and Israel’s war on Gaza. With no live audience, millions of Americans watched from home as protesters outside the venue called for Harris to earn their vote with a ceasefire in Gaza.

Political observers weighed in on the debate, with opinions divided on the winners and losers of the night. Barbara Perry praised Harris for offering clear policy contrasts to Trump’s generalities, while Michelle Austin Pamies criticized Trump’s debunked claims about Haitian immigrants. Protesters, represented by Reem Abuelhaj, expressed frustration over Harris’s stance on Israel’s war in Gaza.

Republican strategist John Feehery criticized the moderators for fact-checking Trump more rigorously than Harris, while Kelly Dittmar praised Harris for baiting Trump into unravelling during the debate. Aaron Kall noted the major shift in tone from previous debates, cautioning against reading too much into the impact on the election. Shannon Smith highlighted the lack of political will from both parties to address the environmental and health effects of fracking.

As the race tightens, the debate underscored the deep divisions in America and the importance of policy specifics over generalities in winning over undecided voters. The candidates will continue to make their case to the American people leading up to the November election.
