Texas man receives 3-year prison sentence for kicking cat in football-style video

Donaldvan Williams, a Texas man, has been sentenced to three years and four months in federal prison for kicking a cat “as if kicking a football field goal,” in an incident that was recorded and shared on social media. The cat was left foaming at the mouth and convulsing after the brutal act, which was filmed by another man, Decorius Mire, who encouraged Williams to kick the cat. Mire was also sentenced to 18 months in prison for his role in the abuse.

The incident took place in the parking lot of a Beaumont apartment complex in October 2021. The court records indicate that Williams did not render aid to the injured cat but instead kicked it forcefully. The kick sent the cat flying through the air around 15 to 20 feet.

Although Williams was charged with kicking the cat, the animal’s torture did not end there. Another individual poured an accelerant on the cat and set it on fire, with the disturbing act also being recorded on video. Both Williams and Mire pleaded guilty to kicking the cat and recording it, not for the subsequent act of setting the animal on fire.

The fate of the cat, whether it survived or succumbed to its injuries, remains unclear as court records do not mention its outcome. A federal defender representing Williams did not immediately respond to requests for comment following his sentencing.
