The Kansas men’s basketball team has kicked off its annual boot camp, a rigorous conditioning program to prepare players for the upcoming season. The tradition, dating back to coach Bill Self’s early coaching days, aims to challenge players so that game situations feel easier in comparison. This year’s team, featuring both veterans and newcomers, has several players experiencing boot camp for the first time.
Returning players Elmarko Jackson and Shakeel Moore are currently injured, with Jackson in a year-long recovery process and Moore expected to miss six to eight weeks. The team posted a video on social media showcasing the first day of camp, introducing new players like Flory Bidunga, David Coit, and Zeke Mayo. The Jayhawks will open their season at Allen Fieldhouse on Nov. 4 against Howard, with the highly anticipated Late Night in the Phog event scheduled for Oct. 18.
The Lawrence Journal-World and KUsports.com’s sports editor, Henry Greenstein, reports on the start of boot camp and the team’s preparation for the season. Stay tuned for updates on the Jayhawks as they work hard to make an impact in the upcoming games.
