A jury trial date has been set for Dominic Miller, an 18-year-old facing four felonies, including second-degree murder, for his involvement in a shootout that resulted in the death of Lisa Lopez Galvan at the end of the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade and rally. The trial is set to begin on Jan. 12, 2026, and is scheduled for a two-week duration. Miller had been hospitalized for three months after being shot in the back before being booked into the Jackson County Detention Center.
The incident started when Lyndell Mays, who is also charged with second-degree murder, confronted a teenager in Miller’s group, leading to the escalation of the situation. According to police reports, Mays admitted to pulling his gun first, resulting in Marques Harris being shot in the face. A total of 12 people brandished guns during the altercation, with at least six firing their weapons, leaving nearly 25 people wounded and Galvan dead.
During an interview with FOX4, Miller cited Missouri’s stand your ground law, stating that he felt threatened and acted in self-defense. He claimed his actions were reasonable under the law, but the final decision will ultimately rest with the jury. The case highlights the devastating consequences of gun violence and the complexities surrounding self-defense laws in the state.
