Hunter Biden has decided to plead guilty to federal tax-related charges, avoiding a public trial where embarrassing details about his drug use and spending were expected to be revealed. The charges against him allege that he failed to pay at least $1.4 million in taxes between 2016 and 2019, using the money on drugs, escorts, luxury hotels, and other personal expenses. A previous plea deal in Delaware fell apart, leading to new charges being filed in California. The guilty plea will spare Biden from facing over two dozen witnesses in court. Despite his upcoming sentencing in a separate case related to possession of a gun while using narcotics, Biden plans to appeal the conviction. The conditions of his guilty plea were not immediately disclosed, and it is still unclear if the judge will accept it and move straight to sentencing. Hunter Biden is the first offspring of a sitting president to stand trial on criminal charges.
