A suspect has been charged with first-degree murder by the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office in connection with the death of David Stark, whose body was found in a Roeland Park home in late July. Kerry Malone, 55, was arrested on August 23 and is accused of killing Stark on July 18, according to court records.
The investigation began after Roeland Park police responded to a welfare check call near 49th and Briar on July 20 and discovered Stark’s body inside the home. The cause of his death has not been released.
Following the discovery of Stark’s body, the scene was secured by officers and the investigation was turned over to the Johnson County Investigative Unit and Medical Examiner’s Office. Malone’s first court appearance was on Wednesday, and he is currently being held on a $1 million bond. His next court date is scheduled for September 12.
The news of the charges and arrest in the case has shocked the community of Roeland Park and surrounding areas. The authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Stark’s death and are urging anyone with information to come forward. More updates are expected as the case progresses through the legal system.
