Politicians express grief for hostages, condemn Hamas, and call for peace.


Politicians from the White House, members of Congress, and political campaigns expressed condolences after the Israeli Defense Forces recovered the bodies of six hostages, including American citizen Hersh Goldberg-Polin. President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris condemned Hamas for the deaths, with Harris calling them an “evil terrorist organization.” Former President Donald Trump placed blame on Biden and Harris for the deaths. Members of Congress focused on expressing heartbreak and outrage at Hamas. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu urged the Biden administration and Israel to hold Iran accountable for the remaining hostages. World leaders also called for an end to the war and the unconditional release of hostages. Over 1,200 people were killed in Israel during the terrorist attacks, with around 250 others taken hostage. Calls from American politicians for the safe return of hostages have continued as thousands protested in Tel Aviv for a deal. French President Macron, Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau, and UN Secretary-General Guterres also condemned the violence and called for an end to the conflict.
