Tropical Storm Yagi has caused devastation in the Philippines, leading to floods and landslides that have resulted in the deaths of up to 11 people. The storm hit the north of the country, causing heavy rains that led to flooding and landslides. This is a common occurrence in the Philippines, as the country experiences around 20 big storms and typhoons each year between late June and October.
In response to the storm, schools and government offices in Manila were shut down, ferry services were suspended, and domestic flights were cancelled. The impact of the storm was felt in various areas, with casualties reported in different parts of the country. In Antipolo, a landslide claimed the lives of three people, including a pregnant woman. In Naga, two people, including a baby girl, were killed as floodwaters rose.
Evacuation camps were set up for over 300 people who were displaced by the storm, as floodwaters in some areas were slow to recede. Additionally, landslides in Cebu led to two deaths and damage to several houses. This comes after Typhoon Gaemi caused significant damage in the Philippines in July, resulting in at least 22 fatalities.
The Philippines is prone to natural disasters, and the government and emergency services are working tirelessly to respond to the impacts of Tropical Storm Yagi and provide assistance to those affected.
