The Kansas City Police Department is currently investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred early Sunday morning near the state line. The incident began when officers from the Prairie Village Police Department attempted to stop a Chevrolet Malibu for a traffic violation at around 1:40 a.m. However, the vehicle refused to stop and sped eastbound on 63rd Street, eventually crossing into Missouri. The car then crashed into a tree on the west side of 62nd Street after vaulting across the street, causing it to disintegrate. The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. This tragic event marks the 64th fatal crash of the year compared to 61 at the same time last year.
