Maintenance workers at Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun in Kansas City are raising concerns about serious issues affecting guests. The Service Employees International Union Local 1 claims that parts for rides are not being ordered, causing closures, and leading to unsafe incidents. This comes following a recent incident where riders had to walk down from the Mamba roller coaster after a malfunction.
One passholder, Christina Milburn, described a scary incident on the Sea Dragon ride with her niece that highlighted maintenance problems and safety concerns at the park. The union representing maintenance workers at the parks has reported issues with food and beverage services, lack of heat mitigation, and increased ride downtime this season. They believe that better staffing and pay would lead to a smoother park experience for guests.
In response, Worlds of Fun stated that they have been bargaining in good faith with the union and are committed to providing competitive wages and benefits to their employees. They addressed the recent incident on the Mamba, stating that it was not a maintenance issue but a safety feature that was activated.
The union’s claims have brought attention to the ongoing contract negotiations between the park and the maintenance workers. Both sides are working to reach a fair and equitable agreement to address the concerns raised by workers and ensure the safety and enjoyment of guests at the parks.
