GOP State Parties and Citizens United File FEC Complaint Regarding Biden-Harris Campaign Funds • Published by the Kansas Reflector

A conservative group and Republican state parties have filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission, alleging that Vice President Kamala Harris improperly assumed control of campaign funds from President Joe Biden after he withdrew from the race and endorsed her as the Democratic nominee. The complaint is asking the FEC to prevent Harris from using these funds for her campaign in the upcoming general election.

The Biden campaign officially changed its name to the Harris campaign, giving her access to approximately $96 million in campaign funds. Harris’ campaign spokesperson dismissed the complaint as having no merit, accusing Republicans of making baseless legal claims in an attempt to distract from the election.

Citizens United, a group known for reversing campaign finance restrictions, along with the Virgin Islands and 16 state GOP parties, joined in the complaint. The Harris campaign has reported raising $100 million in a short period following Biden’s announcement of withdrawal.

The Trump campaign also filed a similar complaint with the FEC earlier in the week. The chair of the FEC, a Republican appointed by Trump, indicated that there may be regulations preventing Harris from accessing the funds. However, any resolution on the matter is unlikely to occur before the November elections, as the FEC is still dealing with cases from the 2016 election.

It remains to be seen how this complaint will impact Harris’ campaign as she continues to prepare for the general election in November.
