A 76-year-old Connecticut woman was found dead at her home before her sentencing for killing her husband and concealing his body. Linda Kosuda-Bigazzi was to be sentenced to 13 years in prison for the death of her husband, Dr. Pierluigi Bigazzi. She claimed self-defense during a fight in which she hit him with a hammer. His body was discovered in their basement in a state of decomposition, and it was determined he died from blunt trauma to his head. The couple’s joint checking account continued to receive his paychecks until his body was found. An internal investigation at UConn resulted in the discipline of a medical official who was supposed to monitor Pierluigi’s work but didn’t have contact with him before his death. Kosuda-Bigazzi’s lawyer expressed shock at her unexpected death and praised her independence. Police are investigating the cause of her death, which occurred just hours before her scheduled court appearance. Kosuda-Bigazzi’s case was complex and her lawyer had been defending her for six years. This tragic event has left many unanswered questions about the circumstances surrounding the death of both Kosuda-Bigazzi and her husband.
