Athletes from Jayhawks to Compete for Countries on Five Continents at Olympics


University of Kansas track and field coach Stanley Redwine is set to lead the U.S. men’s track and field squad at the upcoming Olympics in Paris. Among the athletes he has coached, several will be competing for their home countries, including Bryce Hoppel, a former KU middle-distance runner. Hoppel set a new meet record in the 800 meters at the Olympic team trials.

Other athletes coached by Redwine include Michael Joseph, a Big 12 indoor champion in the 400 meters, representing Saint Lucia, and Yoveinny Mota, who will run for Venezuela in the 100-meter hurdles. Notable past Jayhawks competing in the Olympics include Hussain Al-Hizam from Saudi Arabia in the pole vault and Alexandra Emilianov from Moldova in the discus throw.
