The newly renovated 15,300-seat Allen Fieldhouse is set to open early in October, in time for the iconic Late Night in the Phog event on Oct. 18. The $50 million renewal project includes redesigned concourses, a new central video board, and enhanced ADA seating options. Despite reducing its capacity by 1,000 seats, Kansas athletic director Travis Goff emphasized the importance of balancing fan experience with capacity needs.
Goff explained that decisions were made based on factors like fan exposure, financial considerations, and preserving the historical significance of Allen Fieldhouse. The capacity reduction was primarily due to new video boards, increased chairback seating, and ADA-compliant seating enhancements. However, Goff assured that student attendance and capacity will remain unaffected by the changes.
After Late Night in the Phog, the Fieldhouse will host an exhibition game against Washburn on Oct. 29, marking the first official event in the renovated arena. Despite the modifications, fans can expect an improved game-day experience while still preserving the tradition and legacy of one of college basketball’s most iconic venues.
The Lawrence Journal-World and KUsports.com will continue to provide updates on the Allen Fieldhouse renovation and upcoming basketball events as the season approaches. Stay tuned for more information on the latest developments in Kansas basketball and Allen Fieldhouse.
