Apple has released a new update for Safari Technology Preview, their experimental browser used to test features for future releases of Safari. The update, version 198, includes fixes and updates for various aspects of the browser, such as CSS, Forms, JavaScript, and more. The latest release is compatible with macOS Sonoma and the macOS Sequoia beta.
The update can be downloaded through the Software Update mechanism and does not require a developer account. Apple aims to gather feedback from developers and users on their browser development process through Safari Technology Preview, which can be run alongside the existing Safari browser.
In other news, Apple has reclassified the iPhone X, first-generation HomePod, and first-generation AirPods as “vintage” products, meaning they are more than five but less than seven years old. This change was seen on the vintage and obsolete products list on Apple’s website.
Additionally, Apple has settled a class-action lawsuit over faulty MacBook butterfly keyboards and affected customers will soon receive payouts. The court issued a payment order on June 27, with payments set to be issued by August 2024.
Looking ahead, Apple plans to turn some of its artificial intelligence features into paid services, similar to iCloud+ subscriptions. While Apple Intelligence will be free at first, they may introduce a subscription service, like “Apple Intelligence+,” with additional features that users can pay for.
