Kansas City Fire Department rescues multiple people from floodwaters during flash floods.

The Kansas City Fire Department conducted a number of water rescues on Thursday morning due to flash flooding in the metro area. At a homeless camp near MLK and Hardesty, three people needed to be rescued from sudden rushing water. Two people were recovered, but one remains missing. Conflicting reports exist about the status of the third person, with the fire department stating they are okay while witnesses claim they are still missing.

The flooding occurred in typical hot spots during heavy rain, causing water to overflow into roads and sweep the group away. The water levels along the Blue River reached 22 feet, significantly higher than the usual 6 to 7 feet. Rescue efforts involved swimmers in the water for 30 minutes to an hour while searching for those in need.

Another rescue took place at Brush Creek at MLK Boulevard and Oak, where a man was rescued from the creek after being engulfed by water. He described the strong current in the creek as difficult to swim in but was ultimately rescued by KCFD without injuries.

The situation is still developing, and updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
