In northern Australia, police have discovered the remains of a 12-year-old girl who was taken by a crocodile while swimming in a creek. The girl was reported missing on Tuesday and her remains were found near a river system in a remote community called Palumpa. Senior Sergeant Erica Gibson expressed her condolences to the family and community, stating that the incident is heartbreaking for all involved. The child had suffered injuries from a crocodile attack and efforts are being made to capture the culprit crocodile. Saltwater crocodiles, the largest species of crocodile, are protected in the Northern Territory where the incident occurred. Despite their protected status, their population is growing, posing a risk to human safety. In response, the number of crocodiles allowed to be removed annually in the territory has been increased. In a recent incident, a crocodile that had been causing trouble was captured, killed, and used as a feast for locals. This tragic event serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by these creatures and the importance of wildlife management to protect the community.
