Due to inclement weather and extreme heat, multiple fireworks shows in the Kansas City metro have been postponed. The event at Pierson Park in Kansas City, Kansas’ Turner neighborhood has been rescheduled to Friday, July 12, with fireworks starting at 9:45 p.m. The event is free to the public, but once parking lots are full, entrances into the park will be closed, street closures will go into effect, and no one will be allowed to enter after 9:30 p.m. Other shelters will be open for public use, but alcohol and drugs are prohibited.
The City of Odessa has also rescheduled its fireworks event to Sunday, July 7 at 9:30 p.m., while Roeland Park’s annual Northeast Johnson County Fireworks Display has been postponed to Friday, July 5 at Bishop Miege Baseball Field at 9:45 p.m.
The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for the Kansas City area until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, with storms expected to develop in the afternoon and continue into the evening. Gusty winds, heavy rain, hail, flash flooding, and even a potential tornado are all possible threats. Additional rain and storm chances are expected on Wednesday and Thursday as well.
