The Kansas City Royals have announced that infielder Vinnie Pasquantino and right-handed pitcher Seth Lugo have been named Player and Pitcher of the Month for June, respectively. Pasquantino led the team with 19 RBI and impressive batting stats, while Lugo had a 2-1 record with a 3.11 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 6 starts.
Pasquantino’s outstanding performance in June included 12 extra-base hits, tying with Bobby Witt Jr., and 8 go-ahead RBI, leading the American League. His 19 RBI were the most by a Royal in June in seven years. On the other hand, Lugo excelled in pitching, recording at least 6.0 innings in all 6 starts, with 37.2 innings pitched, the 3rd most in the Majors during June.
Lugo started the month with a slightly rocky performance but finished strong, including a 6.0 shutout inning against the Marlins and a 10-strikeout win against the Guardians. His 2.17 ERA this season is the lowest by a Royal through his first 18 starts with the franchise.
This marks the third monthly honor for Pasquantino, after winning back-to-back awards in previous seasons, while Lugo has earned Royals Pitcher of the Month honors in three consecutive months. Their exceptional performances have contributed significantly to the team’s success and are a testament to their talent and dedication on the field.
