At least seven people have died due to a powerful storm that has devastated islands in the Caribbean. St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada are among the hardest hit, with significant damage to homes and farms. Venezuela has also experienced heavy flooding, with fatalities reported. The storm, known as Beryl, reached Category 5 hurricane status, making it the strongest July hurricane on record. It has since weakened as it moves west towards the Gulf of Mexico. Beryl is forecasted to pass near or over the Cayman Islands, which are under a hurricane warning. Authorities in Jamaica have warned residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas to evacuate to shelters or safer ground. A couple from Tennessee on their honeymoon in Montego Bay found themselves stranded as they were unable to find available flights out of the island. While a mandatory evacuation has not been ordered at their resort, they have been provided a conference room to ride out the storm. The situation across the Caribbean is dire, with widespread destruction and loss of life, prompting governments and residents to take necessary precautions to ensure safety during this major weather event.
